NPI Canadian Equity and Social Responsibility Fund

Investment Objectives

The investment objective of the NPI Canadian Equity and Social Responsibility Fund is to provide long-term capital appreciation by investing in a diversified portfolio of Canadian equity securities which fit the Fund's socially responsible investing screening criteria.

Investment Strategies

The Fund invests in a broad selection of Canadian equity securities including convertibles and warrants. The Fund may invest up to 15% of its assets (at market value at time of purchase) in foreign (non-Canadian) securities. In periods of unusual market conditions or while seeking investment opportunities, the Fund's assets may be held in cash, cash equivalents or fixed income securities.

The Fund screens for primarily large cap companies which typically possess strong management capabilities, strategic advantages, financial health, and fit the Fund's social responsibility criteria. In the Fund's opinion, these companies have above-average earnings potential and favourable valuation levels.

The Fund seeks to invest in companies that, among other screening criteria, achieve excellence in global environmental impact management; have positive employment and labour practices; contribute to socio-economic development through community involvement initiatives; and maintain an admirable corporate governance policy.

 

NPI U.S. Equity and Social Responsibility Fund

Investment Objectives

The investment objective of the NPI U.S. Equity and Social Responsibility Fund is to provide long-term capital appreciation by investing in a diversified portfolio of U.S. equity securities which fit the Fund's socially responsible investing screening criteria.

The investment objective of the NPI Canadian Green Fund is to provide long-term capital appreciation by investing in equity securities of Canadian companies of any market capitalization involved with developing or marketing products or services that mitigate global environmental impact and which fit the Fund's socially responsible investing screening criteria.

Investment Strategies

The Fund invests primarily in a broad selection of Canadian equity securities including convertibles and warrants. The Fund may invest up to 20% of its assets (at market value at time of purchase) in foreign (non-Canadian) securities. In periods of unusual market conditions or while seeking investment opportunities, a significant portion of the Fund's assets may be held in cash, cash equivalents or fixed income securities.

The Fund screens for Canadian companies of any market capitalization that have developed or are developing or marketing products or services that address commercial and consumer needs of mitigating global environmental impacts without undermining sustainability.

These companies typically possess strong management capabilities, strategic advantages, financial health, and fit the Fund's social responsibility criteria. In the Fund's opinion, these companies have above-average earnings growth potential and favourable valuation levels with respect to these expectations and the industry outlook.

 

NPI U.S. Green Fund

Investment Objectives

The investment objective of the NPI U.S. Green Fund is to provide long-term capital appreciation by investing in equity securities of U.S. companies of any market capitalization involved with developing or marketing products or services that mitigate global environmental impact and which fit the Fund's socially responsible investing screening criteria.

Investment Strategies

The Fund invests primarily in a broad selection of U.S. equity securities including convertibles and warrants. The Fund may invest up to 20% of its assets (at market value at time of purchase) in foreign (non-U.S.) securities. In periods of unusual market conditions or while seeking investment opportunities, a significant portion of the Fund's assets may be held in cash, cash equivalents or fixed income securities.

The Fund screens for U.S. companies of any market capitalization that have developed or are developing or marketing products or services that address commercial and consumer needs of mitigating global environmental impacts without undermining sustainability.

NPI Global Responsible Real Estate Fund

Investment Objectives

The investment objective of the NPI Global Responsible Real Estate Fund is to provide long-term capital appreciation by investing in equity securities of real estate companies around the world whose primary business is directly or indirectly related to the ownership, management or development of real estate property. The fund will screen for real estate companies that address environmental needs, while demonstrating a mixture of value and growth potential.

Investment Strategies

The Fund invests primarily in a broad selection of global real estate equity securities including convertibles, warrants and real estate investment trust ("REIT") securities. In periods of unusual market conditions or while seeking investment opportunities, a significant portion of the Fund's assets may be held in cash, cash equivalents or fixed income securities.

The Fund screens for REITs and similar real estate entities that are in the business of owning, managing or marketing real estate; companies in related industries, such as financing or construction; and companies in other businesses that have at least half their assets in real estate holdings which, through their business activities, address global environmental needs.

These companies typically possess strong management capabilities, strategic advantages, financial health, and fit the Fund's social responsibility criteria. In the Fund's opinion, these companies have above-average earnings growth potential and favourable valuation levels with respect to these expectations and the industry outlook.

 

NPI Global Responsible Financial Services Fund

Investment Objectives

The investment objective of the NPI Global Responsible Financial Services Fund is to provide long-term capital appreciation by investing in equity securities of financial services companies anywhere in the world which fit the Fund’s socially responsible investing screening criteria.

Investment Strategies

The Fund invests in a broad selection of equity securities including convertibles and warrants. In periods of unusual market conditions or while seeking investment opportunities, a significant portion of the Fund’s assets may be held in cash, cash equivalents or fixed income securities.

The Fund screens for primarily large-cap financial services companies located anywhere in the world which typically possess strong management capabilities, strategic advantages, financial health and fit the Fund’s social responsibility criteria. In the Funds opinion, these companies have above-average earnings growth potential and favourable valuation levels with respect to these expectations and the industry outlook.

The Fund seeks to invest in companies that, among other screening criteria, achieve excellence in global environmental impact management; have positive employment and labour practices; contribute to socio-economic development through community involvement initiatives; and maintain an admirable corporate governance policy.

 

NPI Global Alternative Energy Fund

Investment Objectives

The investment objective of NPI Global Alternative Energy Fund is to provide long-term capital appreciation by investing in companies that are involved in the alternative energy sector and fit the Fund’s socially responsible investing screening criteria.

Investment Strategies

The Fund invests in a broad selection of foreign equity securities including convertibles and warrants. In periods of unusual market conditions or while seeking investment opportunities, a significant portion of the Fund’s assets may be held in cash, cash equivalents or fixed income securities.

The Fund screens for companies in the alternative energy sector or  are significantly involved in the alternative energy sector located anywhere in the world. Alternative energy includes, but is not limited to power generated through solar, wind, hydroelectric, tidal wave, geothermal, biomass or biofuels sources. This also includes energy technologies that enable these sources to be consumed, conserved, or transported.

The Fund seeks to invest in companies which typically possess strong management capabilities, strategic advantages, financial health, and fit the Fund’s social responsibility criteria.

In the Funds opinion, these companies have above-average earnings growth potential and favourable valuation levels with respect to these expectations and the industry outlook.

 

NPI Canadian Social Responsibility Index Fund

Investment Objectives

The investment objective of the NPI Canadian Social Responsibility Index Fund is to provide capital appreciation by obtaining a return that approximates the performance of the S&P/TSX Composite index while selecting investment holdings that fit the Fund’s socially responsible investing screening criteria.

Investment Strategies

The Fund follows a “passive” management strategy to create a portfolio of primarily large-cap Canadian equity securities which fits the Fund’s social responsibility criteria in order to match the performance of the S&P/TSX Composite index. 

The Fund may use an “optimization” strategy whereby securities are selected based on industry weightings, market capitalization, and certain fundamental characteristics to match the S&P/TSX Composite index. The Fund may use a “full replication” strategy whereby securities are held in the same proportion as the S&P/TSX Composite index.
